Romantic Wine Cocktail Ideas

Have a romantic dinner date this weekend? Get a full-bodied red, or spicy Pinot Noir. What about a relaxing picnic by the beach? Try a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc, or sweet Moscato. A staycation tipple under the sunset? Rosé, no question about it.

There are wines for every date, and every mood. But if you’ve ever wanted to spruce up a date with something romantic and fun, why not try mixing some wine-based cocktails? You can use up an unfinished bottle of wine, or you can even do it with your date – see if the two of you match as wonderfully as wine and vodka, or create an unexpected spark like wine and whiskey. Whatever it is, these delicious wine cocktails will definitely get you talking.

Rosé 75

For a twist on the classic French 75, we have the beautiful Rosé 75 that’s easy to make, yet sure to amp up the romance.

All you need is: 30ml gin

15ml lemon juice

15ml simple syrup (over medium heat, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup granulated sugar until sugar has dissolved)

Maison Castel Cote De Provence Rosé

Lemon slice, to garnish

Add gin, simple syrup, and lemon juice to a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds, then strain into a Champagne flute. Top with rosé, and garnish with a lemon slice.

Depending on the gin used, this cocktail will taste herbal, green, and slightly floral. If you’re looking for something richer, try cognac in place of gin. Whichever liquor you prefer, Maison Castel’s rosé will certainly lighten it up with delicate notes of red berries and citrus.

A toast to a wonderful night out!

Strawberry Shortcake Mimosa

What’s more fun than a mimosa? A strawberry shortcake mimosa, of course!

While strawberry ice cream gives the cocktail an element of childlike whimsy, Zonin Prosecco Cuvee classes up the drink with elegant notes of white flower and peach. Not too heavy nor sweet, it’s the perfect drink – and dessert – to end off any meal on a sweet note.

All you need is:

10 strawberries

½ cup finely crushed Nilla wafers (or any sugar cookies or shortbread biscuits)

⅔ cup strawberry ice cream

300ml vanilla vodka

Zonin Prosecco Cuvee 1821

Whipped cream

Rim Champagne flutes with a sliced strawberry, and dip in cookie crumbs. Into each flute, drop 1 tbsp of strawberry ice cream, then add 30ml vodka, and top with prosecco. Top with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cookie crumbs, and a strawberry for garnish.

For added presentation points, drizzle strawberry purée or syrup to the bottom of the glass beforehand.

Clover Club

Clover Club

For the more sophisticated drinker, why not try making the slightly more complicated Clover Club cocktail? It’s sweet, sour, creamy, and very impressive. Trust us, it’ll be worth the effort.

All you need is:

45ml Mcguigan Black Label Moscato (or white port, for a deeper flavour)

30ml lemon juice

15ml grenadine (or pomegranate juice combined with simple syrup, as a substitute)

15ml honey syrup (made with equal parts honey and water)

5 raspberries

1 egg white

Ice

In a cocktail shaker, add grenadine and raspberries, then muddle them to extract their flavour and colour. Add moscato, lemon juice, honey syrup, egg white, and ice, then shake hard for 30 seconds to chill and ensure the ingredients are combined well. Strain the cocktail and shake again – without ice this time. Double strain into a coupe glass to serve.

If your date’s a cocktail connoisseur, they’ll know how to appreciate it. And so will you!
