History
Monkey Shoulder Whiskey Monkey is a blended malt whisky by William Grant, one of the three largest whisky producers worldwide. Made with single malts from three renowned Speyside distilleries; Glenfiddich, Kininvie and Balvenie.
Monkey Shoulder is widely known as an original blend of single malt whiskies, designed with the intention of creating excellent whiskey cocktails, curated with the perfect mix of malt whiskies from Scotland's Speyside (Highland) area. Monkey Shoulder's unique flavor is dependably achieved in every bottle by hand-picking the whiskies in small amounts and marrying them together. A smooth, creamy, thick, malty, fruity tasting whisky that is robust and stands out in cocktails while being well-balanced.
Origin of Monkey Shoulder
In early years, malted barley was turned by hand by malt men using big, heavy malt shovels in the traditional malt whisky making method. Some of the malt men would get a strain injury that caused their arm to hang down like a monkey's, earning them the nickname "monkey shoulder." Thankfully, the condition is no longer there, but the whisky heritage is still honored.
