To define Amrut Fusion Single Malt Whisky is to ask what Mumbai is to India: an exceptionally important statement. Named the Third Best Whisky by Jim Murray in 2010, the Amrut Fusion Single Malt Whisky helped open the European Market to start considering Indian whisky as a significant player in the Whisky Industry. Made and distilled from barley found in both Scotland and India, Amrut has made a fusion of a palate of fresh fruit and citrus-orange notes, whilst having a zingy layer of spice produced by black pepper and amon. The Fusion series is one of Amrut’s most popular entry-level single malt. It is a mixture of 25% peated Scottish barley and 75% unpeated Indian malt. This combined product is then matured in a combination of new and used American oak barrels at the Amurt distillery back in Bangalore. Hence, this whisky is lightly-peated malt but also filled with one of the many “tropical” fruit flavours that is found in Indian whisky.
History
Since 1948, Amrut has been one of the first single malts to be proudly made in India. The word “Amrut” comes from the Sanskrit word Amrita, which can be roughly translated to being “the nectar of the gods” or “Elixir of Life”. Constantly raising the bar for whiskies being made in India, Amrut managed to create a paradigm shift in cultural thinking for indian whiskies, from one of blended cheap origins to that of an expensive and exquisite taste, thus placing Indian-made and bottled whiskies on the map for connoisseurs everywhere.
