Chinese New Year Beers

Chinese New Year is upon us again, and what’s Chinese New Year without cracking open a fresh bottle of beer at a relative’s home, sitting around the coffee table playing cards (or a noisy mahjong table), while channels play their annual festive programming? Yes, old TVB movie replays, we’re coming for you!

With the rising quality of beer from Singapore, this Lunar New Year, why not support some local breweries and try something new when you stock up your home for the festivities ahead? We promise you won’t be disappointed!

RedDot Brewhouse: A Family Affair

From innocent curiosity about homebrewed beer to full-blown red hot passion, Ernest Ng founded RedDot Brewhouse in 1997, making it one of the pioneers of craft beer in Singapore! But that’s not all – smashing the glass ceiling is his daughter, Crystalla Huang, the first female Singaporean certified brewmaster, who fell in love with the brewing process when she started helping out at the tender age of 7. With Ernest’s firm hand and Crystalla’s bold and curious nature, RedDot Brewhouse takes pride in creating eccentric and original beer flavours that recounts the stories of their life.

One of which is the RedDot Chrysanthemum Rum Lager. Marrying white chrysanthemum and rum with hints of coconut, chamomile, and some tannins, this fruity and floral tea lager is the perfect beer to chase the heat, and cleanse your palate of the array of Chinese New Year dishes and snacks. An easy-going, approachable drink for the whole family!

Another wicked concoction you simply won’t find anywhere else is the RedDot Monster Green Lager. Don’t let the green scare you! Infused with spirulina, this RedDot brainchild is clean and crisp with notes of biscuit and champagne. Enjoy a light, malty beer your relatives won’t be able to stop talking about!

Crossroads Brewing Co.: Au Naturale

Launched in April 2016, Crossroads Brewing Co. aims to produce flavourful, high-quality craft beer designed to complement the heat and humidity of our little red dot. They take pride in using premium ingredients from around the world, with absolutely no preservatives and additives – nothing but all-natural ingredients for your everyday pleasure.

Quench your thirst with a Crossroads Signature Ale – a classic light pale ale with tropical fruit aromas reminiscent of sunny Singapore. With a beautiful blend of light Australian hops as well as toasty caramel malts from Vienna, this is a lively and balanced pint for beer lovers and casual drinkers alike!

Thirsty Asia: Celebrating Diversity Through Beer

Inspired by the diverse flavours and cultures of the world’s largest continent, Thirsty Asia brews are undeniably modern and approachable, yet feature distinct Asian flavours for your enjoyment anywhere in the world. With international award-winning Master Brewer Randy Liew leading the way, Thirsty Asia has won Singapore Brewery of the Year at the Berlin International Beer Competition 2019, as well as a Silver Medal for their English Ale at the Asia International Beer Competition 2018. Together with Thirsty Asia, Randy aspires to create a distinct beer style that is unmistakably Asian, and internationally recognized – lofty dreams that we are truly excited by.

Thirsty Asia Craftsman Lager was born using the traditional brewing method for German Lager, but instead of using the usual barley-malt, it uses rice – the staple food of Asia. On the nose, floral notes and hints of rice meld together to emanate a bouquet not unlike Japanese Sake. On the tongue, enjoy subdued hops and a balanced sweetness in a clean, refreshing body perfect for Asia’s climate.

Como Bere: Low Carbs, Full Flavour

Brewed for the drinkers that want all the fun and none of the tum, Como Bere is a locally-brewed, low carb, low calorie lager. How low are we talking about? Just a little over 110 calories - that’s one large apple, or 1.5 bananas! Or basically nothing compared to the containers of pineapple tarts, bakkwa, and other Chinese New Year goodies welcoming you in each relative’s home.

Enjoy a refreshing and crisp lager with a slightly bitter aftertaste that’s sure to hit the spot. For discerning drinkers looking for the healthier choice!
