drinking games

Alcohol can be a great idea when you’re alone and unwinding for the night, but it can just be as fun — if not more — with friends. There are so many ways to use alcohol to spice up a night with a crowd, if you’re planning on having a house party.

Some of these games are classics and might be familiar to you, while there may be others you’ve never heard of (or tried) before. Well, now is the time to do so! The pandemic may have restricted the group size in which we can hang out, but don’t let that be an excuse to stop you from having fun.

Beer pong

Raise your hands if you’ve actually played this. The rules are simple: set up some cups on a table, preferably in the pattern of a pyramid. Make sure you have some ping pong balls on hand. The goal of the game is to aim the ping pong balls into the cups, and you have to drink whichever you manage to land.

Even if you’re holding a drinking session over a video conferencing tool in order to bypass the social gathering limit, it is still possible to play beer pong with your friends! Cup Pong allows you to play various games via iMessage — all in a virtual setting. Make a group chat with your friends and you are good to go!

We recommend our Asahi Dry 24-bottle package that is only going for $83. A delightful and refreshing drink that is perfect for a large group, the Asahi package is sure to last you through the entire night.

Never Have I Ever

This one sounds as easy as it does. Each player holds up 10 fingers, and takes turns to reveal something that they have never done. Other players then put down their fingers depending on whether they have done it before or not. Every time they put down a finger, they have to take a drink. The first person to have all 10 fingers down has to down their entire cup in one shot.

Never Have I Ever not only makes for a good drinking game but it is a great conversation starter. It’s fun to find out what are some of the silly things you and your friends have done, and learn their hidden and surprising sides!

King’s Cup

Also known as Ring of Fire, this game requires just a deck of cards. There is typically a list to follow that dictates what you have to do whenever you draw a card. For instance, if you draw an ace, everyone has to drink until you yourself stop drinking. The rest of the rules are as follows, though of course, each version has its own slight deviation:

2: You. You point at a person and ask them to drink.
3: Me. You have to take a drink.
4: Floor. The last person to put their hands on the floor has to drink.
5: Guys. All the boys have to drink.
6: Chicks. All the girls have to drink.
7: Heaven. The last person to raise their hand when this card is picked has to drink.
8: Mate. You have to pick a person to be your mate. Whenever one of you drinks, the other has to as well.
9: Rhyme. The person who picks this card has to pick a word, and each player has to say another word that rhymes. Whoever gets stuck has to drink.
10: Categories. The person who picks this card chooses a category, and each player has to say a word that falls into that category. Whoever is unable to continue the chain has to drink.
Jack: Rule. The person who picks this card gets to come up with a rule that every player has to follow. Whoever breaks the rule has to drink each time.
Queen: Question. The person who picks this card gets to pose a question to another player. The player then has to respond with a question, and whoever fails to do so has to drink.
King: King’s Cup! When the first 3 kings are drawn, the person who picks it pours some of their drink (or a drink of their choice) into a centre cup. Whoever draws the last king card has to drink it!

Two Truths and a Lie

Similarly to Never Have I Ever, Two Truths and a Lie is a perfect ice-breaker game. Like its name suggests, each player has to think of three statements that they will present to the rest. The other players then guess which statement is the lie. If they guess wrongly, they have to drink. Test how well you know your friends — and how well you can lie!

For this game, we recommend pairing it with Budweiser beer. Cellarbration has an offer for a package of 24 Budweiser bottles going at $68. Opt for a lightweight alcoholic beverage as this game makes for good conversation — you don’t want to be too drunk before the night is even over!

Flip Cup

This game is a great test of your coordination skills. All you need is a table and some cups. Place the same number of cups on each side of the table, making sure the bottom rim is sticking out a little. Split all the players into two equal teams.

The objective of the game is to flip the cup onto its head by flicking the bottom rim that is sticking out. Every player should face off of each other, competing to see who can flip the cups the fastest. It does not count if the cup falls off the table or onto its side.

Once a player is done flipping the cups, they have to chug down a cup of beer before passing the baton on to the next player. Whichever team manages to finish all the objectives first wins! This game is perfect for kindling that competitive spirit in all of us, though in good fun of course.

While drinking games are often best paired with beer, depending on the intensity of the game, you can choose other spirits as your beverage of choice. Just be careful not to go overboard! If you’re just looking to chill with your friends, a glass of wine would also do beautifully for a casual conversation amidst a round of games.
